System Engineer

DESCRIPTION:

The MUltiplexed Survey Telescope (MUST) is an ambitious spectroscopic survey telescope led by Tsinghua University. MUST is expected to be built by the year of 2030 and will have a spectroscopic survey capability approximately an order of magnitude higher than that of the current facilities. With the synergy of existing facilities, MUST is expected to make significant advances in the fields of cosmology, galaxy evolution, star information, and exoplanet. MUST has secured a large fraction of the entire funding of more than $100M, allowing a rapid development of subsystems.

The MUST project office (located in Beijing, China) is seeking an experienced System Engineer, who will be responsible for technical coordination of all the subsystems in the project, including the optical system, telescope mount, drive system, dome and site. The person will play a key role in the development, manufacture and test of all the subsystems. He/ She and the Chief Engineer will closely working with engineers and technicians in Tsinghua and MUST vendors, allowing the completion of the entire system. International competitive salary will be provided.

JOB DUTIES:

•Drive technical execution of design, fabrication, assembly, and test of the MUST telescope. •Coordinate requirements and negotiate shared performance budgets and interfaces with all the subsystems. •Provide process management of the project. •Preparation and review of processing documents and drawings. •Organize on-site integration, assembly, commissioning, test and acceptance activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • •The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years’ work experience in large telescope projects, 5 years’ experience in the coordination/management of system integration efforts.
  • •Skilled in working with complex systems.
  • •Highly organized with excellent presentation skills, including Fluency in written and spoken English.

LOCATION:

The work will be mostly based at Tsinghua University. Domestic and international travels will be necessary.
